Trientine Hydrochloride Capsules USP 250 mg is a medication used to treat Wilson's disease in adults, adolescents, and children aged 5 and over who cannot tolerate penicillamine. Wilson's disease is a condition where excess copper builds up in the body. Trientine works by attaching to this excess copper, allowing it to be passed out of the body in the urine. The capsules should be taken orally on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after meals, and at least one hour apart from any other medicines, food, or milk. Regular monitoring of blood and urine is necessary during treatment. Possible side effects include nausea and skin rashes, and rarely, severe side effects like duodenitis or nervous system problems may occur. The medication must be stored in the refrigerator at 2∘C−8∘C and requires a doctor's strict prescription and guidance.
